ATAC is a British manufacturer of laboratory viscometers and physical property analysers. It has a proud heritage, featuring some of the greatest names in this sector.
ATAC was formed in 1993 primarily as a distributor of Analytical products. In 2002, ATAC acquired Sysco Analytics, including the market leading brands of Hallikainen and Hone. The acquisition also added Analyser System Integration capabilities to the company.
Meet the Directors

Dr. Mark Turpin
Dr Turpin has a first degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Materials Science both from Sheffield University.
His early career was as a research fellow at Leeds University studying carbon materials, particularly the manufacture of pitch-based carbon fibres, developing methods for the viscoelastic characterisation of liquid crystalline precursors.
This led to a role as the Global Director of Technology for the Specialty Graphite Division or The Morgan Crucible Company where he became involved in the development of materials for use in proton exchange membrane fuel cells working closely with Johnson Matthey and Ballard.
Dr Turpin has been the Technical Director at ATAC for 15 years developing products for process analytics and laboratory use. He is the author of approximately 40 patents.
A cockney barrow boy by birth, Mark prides himself on making a banging Ruby Murray.

Ray Browne
Ray Browne Is an accomplished director and engineer who’s been successfully serving the Oil & Gas industry for more than two decades. Having seats on several technical committees, Ray is helping improve testing standards for the whole industry.
Holding various senior management positions over the years has given him a passion for people, he’s a true believer in a family first philosophy, be it at work or in one’s home life.
His ambition is to enrich people’s lives, whether it’s a customer or an employee. It’s his commitment to people while still focusing on the future, which is the secret to ATAC’s ongoing success.
“The success of any organisation is entirely linked with the health, growth and happiness of its employees. Like a bike, sometimes you can fall off or lose your way, it’s knowing in which direction you’re travelling and the ability to pick yourself up that will always lead to the success of any team”.

From there he moved into sales as part the Process Analytics Division of global technology business ABB Inc where he built a long and successful career working with major oil, gas and petrochemical customers around the world, specialising in large scale, turnkey, multi-application integrated analyser systems.
John joined ATAC in late 2015 where he now leads process analyser sales as Sales Director Oil & Gas. Research and Development
Thanks to the capabilities available at ATAC, the company has an active and ongoing Research & Development Programme.
The ATAC products were originally developed by companies that were famous for their pioneering approach to property process analysis. Companies like ICI and REL in the UK, and Hallikainen and Hone in the U.S. had a rich heritage of Research & Development.
Mark and Ray have continued that process of invention and continuous improvement. Each generation of machine they manufacture is an improvement on the last, ensuring that ATAC products are already at the leading edge of technology.
