Viscometer Key Features

Cone and Plate Viscometer – Ease of Use
This Cone and Plate Viscometer is pre-calibrated, certificated, and ready to use straight out of the box. The NuLine Viscometer can be calibrated to operate with multiple cone sizes in the same machine. Its rugged design makes it ideal for use as an ‘At-Line’, benchtop viscometer. Results are displayed digitally on the 4.3” colour LCD display and through USB connection to an external PC.
Adaptable & Accurate – Laboratory Viscometer
With a range of digitally-controllable speeds, cone sizes (2, 5, 10, 20, 40, 100 Poise), and temperature ranges, the NuLine Cone & Plate Viscometer is fully adaptable. The PC interface software allows users to analyse and record results and run shear rate or time sweeps. It is highly accurate – better than 1% of span using standard calibration oils, making it the choice of material property analysts the world over.
Reliable Viscometry – A Heritage of Design
The rugged design of the NuLine range is based upon the original ICI Paint Cone & Plate viscometer, which in turn became the famous REL Viscometers. It meets the high demands of modern manufacturing environments, with both reliability and performance standards.
Applications
Used in a wide variety of sectors, with applications including the analysis of paint, cosmetics, varnish, inks, resins, food, bitumen, oil, adhesives, and pharmaceuticals.
Important Specifications and Options

Temperature Range – Two Options
There are two models. One that works at lower temperatures and one that can be heated to much higher temperatures. Both ranges are available with variable temperatures having a resolution of 0.10C and control typically +/- 0.10C
| Model | Temperature Range |
|---|---|
| REL0150 | 5-150°C |
| REL0250 | Ambient to 250°C |

Cone Types – Six Cones/Spindles Supplied:
Each viscometer is supplied with all six cones/spindles, designed to cover all your needs. There are six sizes ranging from 2 Poise up to 100 Poise. NuLine’s self-calibrating routines allow for quick and easy set-up. Each
cone size will dictate the viscosity range that can be measured.
The table below shows the measurable viscosity range by cone size. Viscosity units are selectable between Poise and Pa.S.
Replacement cones can be purchased separately using our e-commerce portal.

Language – Seven Additional Options
Apart from English as standard, the display can be supplied in seven additional languages. You can select the one that fits with your operators. Select from Spanish, French, German, Italian, Chinese (Mandarin), Indonesian, & Japanese. We are always looking to expand the languages available, so please contact us if you are interested in ATAC adding a further language.

A Fine Heritage – REL Viscometers

REL Cone and Plate Viscometer – The Original and Best
REL viscometers were made by the Research Equipment (London) Ltd. They were originally fully analogue benchtop viscometers and used a sliding arrow against a curved scale to provide the user with a reading. These are known as torque viscometers.
The general principle of their working is much the same as the digital NuLine Viscometers of today. Today’s torque viscometers provide a digital readout and PC connectivity. But, in many ways, they are essentially updated REL viscometers.
REL viscometers became a by-word for benchtop viscometers. There are still many in use in laboratories around the world. So, if a laboratory needs an ‘at-line’ REL viscometer, what they really need is an ATAC NuLine Viscometer.

REL Cone & Plate Viscometer – Is it a Rheometer?
A question we are often asked – Is there a difference between a rheometer and a viscometer? It is true that rheometers and viscometers both measure viscosity. However, rheometers are perhaps a little more sophisticated, providing additional information on fluid structure, particularly its elasticity.
For viscometry, however, the choice is clear. At one time, the go-to name in benchtop viscometry was REL. Now, for the best value at-line benchtop viscometers, the name to remember is ATAC. Give us a call today or click on the link to use our contact form.

Will Nu-Line Cone & Plate Viscometers give me the same speed settings as my old REL Viscometer?
Indeed, they will. ATAC’s Nµline Viscometer is the natural successor to the Research Equipment (London) Ltd Cone & Plate viscometers.
It has fully variable speed settings from 5 to 900 RPM in integer increments. For users working with more viscous samples, in ‘Low Speed’ mode, it is adjustable to a precision 0.1 RPM at speeds below 90 RPM
Additionally, with ‘Legacy Mode’ selected, it will replicate the 8 fixed speed pre-sets of previous generations of REL instruments.

| Old REL Presets | Speed (RPM) |
|---|---|
| 1 | 5.9 |
| 2 | 11.7 |
| 3 | 23.4 |
| 4 | 46.9 |
| 5 | 94.0 |
| 6 | 188 |
| 7 | 375 |
| 8 | 750 |
