Vapor Pressure Temperature – An insight into how our vapor pressure analyser regulates the temperature of the test sample.

Vapor Pressure Temperature – What makes up the temperature regulation nest
Inside the bath of each of our vapor pressure analysers, there is a complex nest of tubes that ensure that the test sample is raised to the correct test temperature. This nest comprises three constituents:
- A heating element – shown in the photograph above in the darker colour, with the terminals reaching above beyond the nest to the left.
- A cooling element – important to ensure correct temperature regulation, seen below the heating element.
- Heat exchange coils – through which the sample passes, to achieve the right temperature, seen above the heating element (three coils and an outer wrap of tubing).
Vapor Pressure Temperature – How these work together
The heating element, together with the cooling element, ensures that the liquid in the bath achieves the desired temperature for the test to be successful and accurate. The sample is then passed through the heat exchange coils which are sufficiently long enough to ensure that the sample picks up the heat from the bath liquid. The sample then passes through the analyser, where its True Vapor Pressure (TVP) is measured. From this measurement, the Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP) can then be calculated.
Vapor Pressure Measurement – Why our VPA beats the competition
Most of the VPAs that our competitors sell require their sample to be pressurised using pistons. Given that many of these analysers are located in hot, dusty – even sandy – environments, the use of pistons is not ideal. Pistons and sand do not go well together.
Our VPA, on the other hand, uses a venturi to create the conditions required to measure the vapor pressure. Additionally, there is no need to have a sampling system to measure it. And no return system required either. The results are instant, as the sample is measured simply as it passes through the machine.
